to go to school? Draw a mindmap in your exercise book
2. Click on the link below and read the newspaper article. Answer the questions on your worksheets.
3. Vivo Miles
Look at the following questions and post your answers on the blog.
- Look at the website of the Vivo Miles reward programme, which is used by many British schools: Vivos
- Find out more details about how the scheme works: read the section for students and watch the short video about what teachers and headteachers say about it.
- What do you think about reward schemes like Vivo Miles? Should students be paid for working well in school and attending regularly? Would you work harder and behave better if you were paid, or got rewards like a mobile phone or a camera in exchange? Or does handing out cash kill any real motivation and curiosity for learning? Is it fair that only poor pupils should get the money? Discuss.
- What is a “prizes for all” culture? Can you think of examples?
- Work in a group and think of alternative ways to motivate pupils, especially poor pupils, to work hard and do well in school. Try to find ideas that don’t involve money or goods as a reward.
